The Sea Guardian - Book cover & dedication page
For my Photoshop class I was given the assignment to create a book cover and dedication page based on a folklore story. I picked the tragic Chinese folklore of Mazu, a young girl who lost her mortal life at the hands of the sea but became the Goddess of the Sea who guides ships to their homelands. I focused on a contrast of the darkness the sea holds and the vibrant life of the young Mazu and her two spirit jellyfish companions for the cover and dedication page.
I wanted to keep the dedication page simple but also tie with the cover, which is why I decided to bring the jelly fish (Mazu's spirit guides) over while also keeping the design style minimalistic, so it did not compete with the cover page. I used the same font from the cover page to also help tie both design pages together.
